Have you ever asked yourself, “If I apply for a job online, do I still need a cover letter and resume?”

The  answer is Yes!

The standard online job application is simply a template for your personal information and history and doesn’t usually include a cover letter page.

~Your cover letter allows you to write more about your personal experiences and objectives.

~Your resume is a customized version of your application with tailored information that sets you apart.

So applying for a job online is a good start to get your name out there but remember, the hiring manager is not hiring just a name. When applying online, a follow up phone call is the best way to assure your application has been received. It is also your chance to ask about sending your cover letter and resume to the right person.

Getting your cover letter and resume into the hands of the hiring manager increases your chance of scoring an interview.
